This position is in Cargill’s food and bioindustrial business, where manufacturers, retailers, and foodservice companies rely on us to consistently deliver the products and services they need, and use our technical expertise and market knowledge to develop innovative products.
Job Purpose and Impact
The Senior Food Scientist, Bakery will explore, develop and implement new and existing products. In this position, you will provide technical expertise to customers seeking expertise with modifications to products or new product development. In addition, you will partner cross-functionally for product line growth and technology or process development for the creation of new capabilities. This position identifies and implements technical solutions against business goals.
Key Accountabilities
- Elevate the Cargill brand within the bakery category. Provide technical leadership, partnership, and guidance to customers. Work closely with them to troubleshoot, solution and develop product improvement in bakery formulations for existing offerings and needs or prototypes for new product introductions.
- Track trends and apply industry advancements to help define the future needs of the bakery industry. Identify new product opportunities to meet industry and customer challenges.
- Implement an innovation roadmap including market plans aligned to the business strategy.
- Mentor teammates with knowledge sharing to further develop competency in bakery product formulating. Work closely with cross functional teams including marketing, consumer insights, sales, operations, and food safety quality and regulatory.
- Collaborate with business teams to develop short- and long-term testing programs for experimental and commercial products and hybrids.
- Partner with sales, business management and marketing partners to identify customer needs and translate needs into new product development opportunities.
- Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of four years of related work experience
- Ability to travel up to 20%
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Certified Baker certification
- New product development experience

Compensation Data
The expected salary for this position is $120,000-135,000. Compensation varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific location, certifications, education, and level of experience. The disclosed range estimate may be adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. This position is eligible for a discretionary incentive award. The incentive award amount is dependent upon company performance and your personal performance.
