Job Purpose and Impact

The Port Operator (Shipping Agent) is responsible for the efficient coordination and execution of vessel port calls, acting as the key link between ships, terminals, authorities, and internal stakeholders. This role ensures that all operational, administrative, and regulatory requirements are met to enable safe, compliant, and cost-effective vessel turnaround.

By proactively managing port operations, documentation, and communication, the Port Operator minimizes delays, mitigates risks, and supports optimal vessel performance. This role has a direct impact on supply chain continuity, customer satisfaction, and commercial performance through accurate planning, real-time problem solving, and strong stakeholder engagement.

Key Accountabilities

  • Maintain accurate vessel and port call information in internal systems.
  • Execute daily port operations to ensure safe and efficient vessel turnaround.
  • Coordinate vessel activities such as arrival, loading/discharging, and departure.
  • Prepare shipping documents and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Prepare and follow up on proforma and final disbursement accounts (PDA/FDA) to ensure timely and accurate cost management.
  • Resolve routine issues and escalate more complex problems when needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Fluent in English and Dutch
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in shipping agency, port operations, logistics or maritime environment is a plus
  • Strong coordination and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
