Reporting to the Crop Inputs Retail Manager the Lead Operator is expected to provide plant operators with leadership in customer service, safety, operations, logistics and inventory management. The Lead Operator will lead the operations team by engaging customers, executing on all critical process and systems to build a world class culture around operational excellence, safety and customer service, lead and develop operational employees and closely collaborate with Crop Inputs Retail Manager. The incumbent plans and executes physical operations on a daily basis as well as customer service delivery.

Principal Accountabilities:
50% Customer Service Delivery (Areas that impact our customers)
- Assist in leading IDEX/IWEK meeting at the location and ensure communication of daily plans are had with the entire team
- Participate in weekly Customer driven meetings at the location when available
- Lead the operators at the location in understanding the impacts to product contamination and impacts to our customers, specifically on fertilizer. Using checklists to engage teams on process to eliminate any risks of contamination.
- Execute processes that are in place for good inventory management and superior customer service when delivering products to farm or pick up at location. Load outs prior to pick up and transfer. Double counts prior to loading, or delivering
- Ensure outstanding customer service; includes proactively engaging customers
- Responsible to execute site maintenance tasks. Yard, Sheds, Office
- Look for areas of continuous improvement to support a positive customer experience
- Responsible for leadership of plant operators. You will work as a team with plant operators on a daily basis to complete tasks at the site
50% Safely and efficiently lead the operators of a crop input facility
- Perform operations duties to serve customers, such as, blending and loading fertilizer, unloading and loading seed and agricultural chemical products
- Ensure proper handling and storage of crop inputs products
- Supervise, lead and engage his/her own team in the facility on a daily basis
- Conduct regular plant inspections, assist in safety meetings with staff to review procedures and safety awareness issues
- Assist in executing plans and schedules of operations staff ensuring staffing levels are appropriate at all times
- Ensure seasonal staff has proper training and direction
- Create a high level of safety awareness, Complete safety training, Complete periodic safety checks, maintain safety records, implement processes to ensure the workplace is a safe environment, Addressing workplace safety issues. Ensure completion of PJHA’s & permits as required
- Assist in leading and Executing SIF maturity index tasks and actions
- Lead and ensure proactive maintenance of facilities to ensure safe working environment. Implement and use daily/weekly/monthly maintenance checklist.
- Responsible to using 5S, Single point Checklists and other continuous improvement best practices
- Assist in ensuring all licenses and permits are in place for facilities
- Lead operators in maintenance and operator care of equipment and site to ensure ongoing facility operations
- Retail auditing and inventory management
Required Qualifications:
- Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada
- Cargill requires that employees be a minimum of 18 years old
- Ability to understand and communicate in English(verbal/written)
- Ability to perform physical job duties which may include bending, lifting up to 55lbs., kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions which may include heat, cold, dust, loud noise, etc., with the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Ability to work in elevated areas (4 feet and above)
- Ability to work overtime including weekends, holidays, or different shifts with advance notice
- May require a valid Canadian full class 5 driver’s licence in good standing, authorizing you to drive independently during your employment
- Experience in an agricultural service business environment and related post-secondary education or training
- Ability to effectively lead a team of diverse employees with demonstrated leadership
- Proven problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills
- Ability to manage compliance with Environment, Health & Safety and Operations standards and regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Customer service experience
- Experience leading and operating a crop inputs facility
- Ability to network and build relationships
- Ability to facilitate training
- Demonstrate ability in safety thoughts and actions
- Knowledge of inventory control, operating efficiency and budget management
- Certified Crop Advisor, P. Ag., or related designation would be an asset
